GIMLI, MAN. — A new water treatment plant has opened in the Rural Municipality of Gimli, Man.
A new plant was built at the current site of the Gimli Industrial Park reservoirs, along with two new wells and the installation of 8,000 metres of pipeline to connect to the existing Gimli town site as well as the Pelican Beach water plant and a condominium complex.
Approximately 1,200 metres of watermain were also replaced along with 140 metres of service piping to property lines to 35 existing properties.
Federal Infrastructure and Communities Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne, along with Manitoba Municipal Relations Minister Jeff Wharton and RM of Gimli Lynn Greenberg jointly announced the opening on Nov. 16.
“These vital upgrades to the community’s aging water infrastructure have renewed the water distribution system and extended its life, ensuring clean drinking water will be available to residents of Gimli and Pelican Beach for years to come. Our government is proud to support projects like this, which safeguard public health while laying the groundwork for economic prosperity and sustainable growth,” Champagne said in a statement.
Funding came through $3.5 million from the Government of Canada’s Clean Water and Wastewater Fund. The Manitoba government and RM of Gimli each contributed $1.75 million.
