New low-income seniors housing community opens in Humboldt

HUMBOLDT, SASK. — The Government of Canada, Province of Saskatchewan, City of Humboldt and Stewart Properties recently announced the completion of a new low-income seniors housing community, made possible by a joint investment of more than $1 million from the federal and provincial governments.

Called the Elizabeth Retirement Community, the project is an innovative mixed-use development that provides lower income seniors with additional accessibility and support services at an affordable rate as it bridges the cost between market senior’s units and social housing.

The project consists of the redevelopment of the St. Elizabeth’s Convent to repurpose the existing 28,000-square-foot building into an assisted living complex for low-income seniors consisting of 40 units: 23 independent-living suites, three studio suites, one hospitality/respite suite and 13 assisted-living suites.
