The City of Port Coquitlam is making it easier for businesses, contractors and property developers to do business as it has consolidated all services into a new Biz Hub.
“They can get all the answers in one place,” said Jennifer Little, manager of planning services for the city.
The service is directed towards saving time and providing more thorough information for businesses, contractors and developers as well as local residents intent on doing any kind of development.
The hub will provide one-on-one advice to guide individuals through business applications and renewals, review of permitted land uses on property, building permit application for new construction or alterations and can also provide scheduling of building and fire inspections.
“It will certainly help us with potential property and business owners as they are able to get information in a timelier manner,” Little said, adding staff is centralized.
“We are able to give consolidated answers.”
As well, it will help with consistency, she said, as centralized staff can ensure they are all giving the same information to a contractor or developer.
The development planning, building and engineering services are now located in the new hub within the City Hall Annex at 200-2564 Shaughnessy St.
Prior to the hub, the services were split between the city’s annex and main building.
Online business and development resources, procedures and forms — including online business licence renewals — can be found at www.portcoquitlam.ca/bizhub.
“We’ve been working to streamline processes and remove roadblocks for our businesses for a number of years,” said Mayor Brad West.
“It’s part of our ongoing commitment to make Port Coquitlam more business-friendly and help our local businesses thrive.”
A review of the city’s business licensing services in 2017 identified a need to bring together all the services required to handle the applications, review of proposed land uses and related permits and inspections.
