EDMONTON, ALTA. – Commercial real estate company CBRE announced that its Edmonton office has achieved WELL Certification at the silver level for new and existing Interiors by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI).
It is the first property in Alberta to obtain the achievement. The certification is based on IWBI’s WELL Building Standard which encourages employee health and wellness through the built environment.
CBRE’s office on the 19th floor of Manulife Place achieved WELL certification after it was assessed, monitored and tested across seven wellness categories: air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind.
According to CBRE, the office incorporates more than 100 wellness strategies, including universal access to natural light for employees, ergonomic sit-stand desks, and noise-attenuating technology to reduce stress-inducing background noise. Carbon-filtered water is provided within 30 metres of workstations to keep workers hydrated. And a central lunchroom, the RISE Café, encourages staff to take a break from their desks to eat while exchanging ideas.

With five WELL-Certified offices in Canada, CBRE is at the leading edge of office design and is able to help our clients achieve significant benefits for their people.”
In the past few years, the company has renovated nine of its other offices in Canada with the goal of create world-class space for employees and clients. The company stated that its intent is to help pioneer the adoption of the WELL Standard, which it considers to be the next frontier in workplace design. CBRE now has a total of five offices registered for WELL Certification, making it a leader in global adoption of the standard.
In 2013, CBRE’s global parent became the world’s first company to achieve WELL Certification for a commercial office space through the WELL pilot program, with the opening of its corporate headquarters in Los Angeles. CBRE is currently connected to 89 WELL projects worldwide, acting as either the owner or consultant, representing a total of more than 16 million sq. ft.
