City of Edmonton introduces online building permit dashboard

City of Edmonton introduces online building permit dashboard

The City of Edmonton has rolled out a new online dashboard to track building permit and inspection processing times.

The dashboard will provide information on when building applications will be assigned for review as well as when requests for building and trade disciplines inspections are scheduled.

“The dashboard is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to make permit information more accessible and improve the experience for homeowners, builders and contractors when interacting with the City’s permitting process,” City of Edmonton general supervisor of safety codes and inspections Chad Rich said.

The dashboard shows processing time estimates for:

  • Home improvement building permit application reviews, including decks, garages, basement renovations, secondary suites and more.
  • New home construction building permit application reviews, including single detached, semi-detached, duplex and row houses.
  • Commercial and mixed-use building permit application reviews, including new construction, tenant improvements, renovations and additions.
  • Scheduling the required inspections for building and mechanical permits, such as electrical, plumbing and gas and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning).

Homeowners and builders are encouraged to call 311 for development permit application processing times.

The City of Edmonton has also started a permit and licensing improvement project focused on contractors doing commercial or residential renovations, business owners moving into a new space or opening a new business and homeowners doing renovations.
