Alberta government releases RFQ for P3 school projects

EDMONTON — The Alberta government has posted a request for qualifications (RFQ) for a public-private partnership (P3) bundle of schools.

The bundle was posted on the Alberta Purchasing Connection and includes high schools in Blackfalds, Edmonton and Leduc. Once the RFQ is closed on Oct. 8 a shortlist of up to three proponents will be invited to bid on the P3 project through the request for proposal stage.

“We have a successful track record of delivering much-needed school infrastructure using P3s. We know P3s offer value for money and we are confident this is the best method to provide these five communities with new high schools,” said Alberta Minister of Infrastructure Prasad Panda in a statement.

The five schools included in the P3 bundle as Blackfalds, a Grade 9 to 12 school, a Grade 10 to 12 school in southeast Edmonton and a Grade 10 to 12 Catholic school in Edmonton’s Heritage Valley, a Grade 7 to 12 school in Langdon and a Grade 10 to 12 school in Leduc.

A contract with the successful proponent is expected by the end of September 2021 and the five new schools are anticipated to open in September 2024.
