Medicine Hat stimulus funding approved for various projects

MEDICINE HAT, ALTA. — Municipal Stimulus Program (MSP) funding is bringing pickleball, an improved BMX track and more to Medicine Hat, Alta.

The city announced this month that five projects it submitted to the province have been funded by the MSP program and are scheduled for completion next year.

“2020 has been a challenging year for Albertans and municipalities are no exception,” said Drew Barnes, MLA for Cypress, in a statement. “This program will help drive economic growth in Medicine Hat and communities across the province by creating jobs and positioning Alberta as a great place to live, work and do business.”

The MSP aims to create jobs, enhance provincial competitiveness and productivity and position communities to participate in future economic growth as well as reduce municipal red tape. Projects submitted for funding often include roads, bridges, water and wastewater systems, public transit and recreation.

Municipalities are limited to a maximum of five project submissions.

The projects must also be ones that would not have been built without help from the MSP.

The five projects are:

  • Gas City campground construction
  • Multi-use trail development and extension
  • Multi-court pickleball facility
  • Town Square – redevelopment of 603 1st Street SE and Riverside Veterans’ Memorial Park
  • BMX track upgrades
