Federal government funds Kelowna cleantech hub
The Government of Canada is putting $1.9 million in funding towards an innovation hub on the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus (UBCO). The hub will promote clean technologies to convert carbon-based additives and components into sustainable products. UBCO will work with manufacturing, mining and lumber companies in Western Canada to research how industrial waste can be recycled into high-quality carbon products.
Vancouver looks for feedback on striking West End tower project
The City of Vancouver is looking for public feedback on two proposed towers planned on 1728 Alberni St. and 735 Bidwell St. in the city’s West End neighbourhood. The 30-storey and 34-storey residential towers each rest on a five-storey podium. Heatherwick Studio designed the towers. Feedback can be entered here.
Nexii set to open first green-building manufacturing plant in Pennsylvania
Vancouver-based Nexii Building Solutions is on schedule to open its first production facility in the United States in Hazleton, Penn. in spring 2021. The plant will be operated by Pennsylvania company NEXUS-1 and will produce Nexiite, Nexxis’ proprietary building material. Nexii currently has one fully operational plant in Moose Jaw, Sask. with three new production facilities in development in B.C., Alberta, and Ontario.
