Feds fund seniors housing in Manitoba
The federal government through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation has announced $16.8 million in federal funding for Dufferin Villa, a seniors assisted-living complex to be built in Portage la Prairie, Man. The three-storey facility will provide 53 affordable units for seniors. The funding, announced Thursday, is being allocated from the CMHC’s National Housing Co-Investment Fund. The CMHC also announced $67.8 million to help construct 226 affordable rental residential units in LaSalle, Que.
ABB announced drone-based pipelines inspection system
Global tech company ABB launched a drone-based pipeline inspection system that it claims is the world’s fastest and most sensitive system in its class. The ABB Ability Mobile Gas Leak Detection System, called the HoverGuard, detects, quantifies and maps leaks up to 100 metres from natural gas distribution and transmission pipelines, gathering lines, storage facilities and other potential sources, automatically generating digital reports that summarize results. The product is said to be the first drone-based system to quantify methane, carbon dioxide and water vapor continuously while flying.
Kenney to address CAPP symposium
The 2021 Scotiabank Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) Energy Symposium will take place on April 6 and 7 in a virtual format. The opening keynote includes remarks from Frank J. Macchiarola, SVP of policy, economics and regulatory affairs with the American Petroleum Institute, followed by an address by Alberta Premier Jason Kenney.
Vancouver approves murals on construction hoarding
Vancouver City Council has approved a motion to explore options for requiring murals and public art on hoarding on private-property construction and development sites. A similar program spearheaded in Toronto runs at no cost to the city.
