EDMONTON. — Dave Filipchuk, the chief executive officer of PCL Construction, has received the Canadian Business Leader Award for 2023 from the University of Alberta.
PCL Construction is the largest general construction firm in Canada with more than nine billion in yearly revenue, the award announcement states.
Filipchuk graduated from the University of Alberta in 1984 with a degree in civil engineering.
“On a Saturday, Dave Filipchuk wrote his last exam at the University of Alberta. The following Monday, he started as a field engineer at PCL Construction,” reads the announcement.
“He thought he’d try it ‘for a little while’ — and now, 39 years later — he leads an organization that executes, in any given year, more than a thousand projects.”
“With so many tremendous leaders in our business community, it’s extraordinarily humbling to receive the Canadian Business Leader Award from the University of Alberta,” said Filipchuk in the announcement.
“Operating within a strong team makes a leader look good. And certainly, I have the benefit of an extremely strong team that deserves a lot of credit for the success they drive in our organization.”
There will be an awards gala on March 23, 2023 at the Edmonton Convention Centre.
