WINNIPEG — The Government of Manitoba has invited the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association to consult on forthcoming prompt payment rules, an MHCA notice states.
The consultant group will provide feedback on amendments to the Builders’ Liens Act.
“We recognize the practicality of moving on near-term amendments to improve the provisions and protections for prompt payment down the chain of industry participants in a project contract,” said Chris Lorenc, president of the MHCA, in a statement.
The group plans to comprehensively modernize the liens act, an undertaking that was recommended by the Manitoba Law Reform Commission.
“The goal is to see in Manitoba prompt payment legislation consistent with jurisdictions in Canada and elsewhere, embedding a transparent, strong process for prompt payment and accompanying adjudicative provisions,” reads the release.
