CALGARY, ALTA. — The CDP has given the City of Calgary an “A” grade for its approach to climate change, a news release states.
“Getting straight As is no small feat and this grade reflects the city’s dedication to supporting Calgary’s future as a healthy and green city,” said Mayor Jyoti Gondek in the release.
Around one in 10 cities were given an A grade by the CDP this year.
The city was commended for its implementation and tracking of an adaptation plan, its progress through a mitigation plan using science-based targets, a clear understanding of the climate threats facing Calgary and a detailed breakdown of community-wide emissions.
“In addition, with our four-year Climate Implementation Plan and council approval of the 2023-2026 budget, Calgary is in an even better position to become a modern city that uses less energy and reduces climate risk. The plan carries the momentum from the last five years (and farther) to the next four years and beyond as we work to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050,” writes the city in the release.
