VICTORIA — The Government of British Columbia has announced $2.1 million in funding for northern housing and health care projects.

Some of the funding will go towards new housing, including transitional and affordable units for women, children and youth at risk of violence as well as a 24-hour child care centre with space for 60 children in the District of Kitimat, states a news release.

The funding will be distributed through the Northern Healthy Communities Fund and administered by the Northern Development Initiative Trust and the Province.

Funds will also go towards first aid training workshops and a new permanent Foundry Centre in Terrace, B.C.

“Organizations receiving funding will work to increase services in their communities, such as improving access to daycare, a community gathering space, housing and more. I encourage all eligible local governments, non-profit organizations and First Nations to apply for this funding,” said Minister of Municipal Affairs Anne Kang in the release.
