B.C. to issue new RFP for Dawson Creek Hospital
PROVINCE OF B.C. — Clark Builders-Turner-HDR Architecture had been previously selected to design a new hospital for Dawson Creek, B.C. but “Northern Health was unable to reach an agreement with the previously selected builder” resulting in the issuance of a new RFP.

VICTORIA — The Government of British Columbia and Northern Health are moving forward with procurement for the Dawson Creek and District Hospital replacement after hitting a snag with the originally-selected proponent.

The province anticipates a request for proposals (RFP) will be released mid-January for the project, according to a news release.

The new hospital’s design is 60 per cent complete but “Northern Health was unable to reach an agreement with the previously selected builder” resulting in the issuance of a new RFP, reads the release.

In September 2021, after an evaluation process that included Northern Health, and Infrastructure B.C., it was decided that Clark Builders-Turner-HDR Architecture would receive the contract.

The new hospital will be 209,000 square feet and have 70 beds. Mental health services will be modernized including a new in-patient suite, 18 beds and the emergency department will increase from 10 to 15 beds.

The hospital will provide surgical services, chemotherapy, ambulatory care, radiology, clinical support and pharmacy services. It will include space for a laboratory and diagnostic imaging, a perinatal unit including labour, delivery, recovery and post-partum rooms and a nursery to support new parents and families.

The new hospital will be on the territory of Treaty 8 First Nations with the province writing that local First Nations will be consulted throughout the project.
