Alberta gained 89,000 full-time jobs in 2022: Statistics Canada

EDMONTON — Alberta gained 89,000 jobs in 2022, an increase of 3.4 per cent, according to Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey.

The province’s unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.8 per cent in the month of December, although employment rose by 25,000.

On a year-over year basis, the unemployment rate has decreased by 1.7 per cent.

“Most of this job growth comes from the private sector, with major gains in construction, manufacturing, transportation and warehousing, technology, business and health care,” said Minister of Jobs, Economy and Northern Development Brian Jean in a press release.

“Record levels of international migration paired with the highest net interprovincial migration in decades show that people from across Canada and around the world are taking notice of Alberta as the land of opportunity.”
