$177 million long-term care facility coming to Richmond by 2028

$177 million long-term care facility coming to Richmond by 2028

RICHMOND, B.C. — A new long-term care home, called the Richmond Lions Manor-Fentiman, has been announced for construction in the City of Richmond, B.C.

Capital costs for the project are around $177 million. It will be owned and operated by Vancouver Coastal Health with construction expected to begin in 2025 and complete in 2028, according to a news release.

The manor will be eight storeys and offer 144 long-term care beds and 14 hospice beds. It will be built on the site of the Richmond Lions Manor, which closed in 2014 after 44 years in operation. It will replace the 86 beds at the currently operating Richmond Lions Manor-Bridgeport.

The home will be designed in a “households” style, with each household containing 12 residents in single-bed rooms with bathrooms and communal living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens and activity spaces.

“Long-term care is about more than just beds,” said Harwinder Sandhu, parliamentary secretary for seniors’ services and long-term care, in the release.

“Our government wants to ensure that people are supported in living independently for as long as safely possible and have access to quality long-term care services that will allow them to age with dignity.”
