VANCOUVER — Metro Vancouver Housing is planning to develop a new family-focused, non-market rental housing project owned by the District of North Vancouver.

The North Vancouver site is located at Riverside Drive along Old Dollarton Road in the Maplewood Village area.

The project, selected through a competitive process where Metro Vancouver member jurisdictions put forward municipally-owned land to be used for affordable housing, is part of a larger 10-year plan to provide affordable housing throughout the Metro Vancouver region.

“The demand for affordable rental housing in our region continues to grow, and to help meet this need, we have committed $190 million to renew existing and build new affordable housing through the Metro Vancouver Housing 10-Year Plan,” Metro Vancouver board of directors chair George Harvie said in a statement.

The site was a strong fit for Metro Vancouver Housing, a release stated, because the District of North Vancouver has rezoned the site to make it development ready.

The first phase of development outlined in the Metro Vancouver Housing 10-Year Plan calls for 800 new affordable rental homes built in seven projects across the region. Other municipalities that have contributed land to Metro Vancouver Housing to meet affordable housing goals include Pitt Meadows and Burnaby.
