COQUITLAM, B.C. – A large shoring wall at a construction site in Coquitlam, B.C. collapsed Wednesday, Nov. 29.
The incident occurred in the early evening on the north end of the site at 500 Foster Ave., a City of Coquitlam release stated.
Amacon is the developer of the project, which it describes on its website as a 44-storey tower that is slated to include 300 homes.
“Foster Avenue was closed and work began immediately to fix the shoring wall to ensure no further failures,” the release stated.
WorkSafeBC attended the site to inspect the incident and have allowed work to continue under the supervision of the site’s geotechnical engineer.
Emergency work will continue through the day and overnight in order to ensure the integrity of the surrounding infrastructure.
“At this time, no one has been injured and there has been no known damage to city roads or underground infrastructure. Repairs to the wall are being supervised by the developer’s professional geotechnical engineers, and they are completing inspections of the rest of the shoring walls. It is not expected that there is any risk to infrastructure or buildings beyond the immediate area of failure,” the city said.
WorkSafeBC confirmed to the Journal of Commerce on Thursday that there were no injuries reported.
Foster Avenue remained closed throughout Nov. 30 between North Road and Whiting Way to all vehicle traffic, though pedestrians have access along the north side of Foster Avenue.
