VANCOUVER – The Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA) is welcoming the union of the BC Conservatives with BC United as the province moves towards an election on Oct. 19.
BC United leader Kevin Falcon withdrew from the race on Aug. 28 with some BC United candidates moving to now run as BC Conservatives.
“This cooperation is very good news for British Columbians. Voters now have a clear choice to make about which party will better serve the public with policies that save tax dollars, encourage competition, and reign in skyrocketing infrastructure costs,” PCA BC regional director Dan Baxter said.
A PCA release noted the association has criticized British Columbia’s NDP government for “regressive labour policies that prevent 85 per cent of the province’s construction workers from building many key public projects, unless they join the government’s favoured building trades unions.”
Those policies lead to fewer bids and project overruns, the release said.
“There is now a real opportunity for needed change in British Columbia. British Columbians deserve a government that is fiscally responsible, treats all contractors and workers fairly, and supports policies that maximize public infrastructure funding rather than wasting taxpayers’ money,” Baxter said.
The release added the association thanked BC United leader Kevin Falcon for his leadership and “and for making a decision that is in the best interests of the province.”
