Northern Community Centre Twin Pad Expansion

Scope

New construction of a fitness / recreation center in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Completed plans call for the construction of a 85,000-square-foot, two-story above grade fitness / recreation center. This project scope involves the construction of a new 85,000 sq ft, two-storey building to be connected to the existing Northern Community Centre, the demolition of the existing W.J. McMeeken Centre and associated site improvements. A new main entrance and Lobby will separate the new rinks from the existing building. The main rink will contain approximately 750 bleacher seats that connect Level One and Two. The main rink was designed to accommodate a walking track around the perimeter of Level Two. This walking track is identified as a Separate Price Option that will be constructed only if the project tenders below budget and the remaining funds permit it. The other ice pad will contain approximately 300 bleacher seats. An elevator exit stair and convenient stair will be located within the main lobby and connect to an Upper Lobby at Level 2. The second floor is located between the two ice pads (above the changerooms) but only accessible from the main rink. This level primarily contains multi-purpose Community Rooms, a Viewing Lounge, a Canteen, Public Washrooms, and service spaces. A single Plant Refrigeration Room is located on the north side of the building and provides access to both ice pads.
