Titan GPS awarded Edmonton snowplow operations contract

EDMONTON – Titan GPS has been awarded a contract by Alberta Transportation to capture and supply real-time Automated Vehicle Location System (AVLS) data for billing sheets based on work performed by snowplows contracted by the ministry.

The contract covers both software and related services over the next five years.

The Titan GPS system, powered by Certified Tracking Solutions, integrates AVLS and telematics data from each snowplow along with data from each provincial highway segment to create a "snow sheet" based on the rules of each contract. Those snow sheets are then verified and the data is supplied to both the contractors and the Alberta government’s automated billing systems.

According to a news release from Titan GPS, the primary objectives behind AVLS are to help highway maintenance contractors better manage vehicle fleets while giving Alberta Transportation staff a way to monitor and audit the work of those vehicles.

Real-time tracking data from snowplow trucks is also available on 511 Alberta, the province’s traveller information service.
