Pedre Contractors Ltd. awarded $2.9 million contract for sewer project

VANCOUVER – Pedre Contractors Ltd. has been awarded a six month contract valued at $2.9 million for the Oakridge Trunk sewer separation project in south Vancouver.

The contract is part of upgrades to the Oakridge Trunk sewer, originally installed in 1957. Two pipes will replace the current single pipe system, one for rainwater runoff and the other for the sanitary sewer. The new sewer is expected to have a life expectancy of 100 years, explains a release.

The project was initiated in response to multiple flooding events between August and September 2013 and June 2014. In addition to flood risk reduction, the City of Vancouver also lists service level improvement, increased system capacity and the one per cent sewer separation goal outlined in the Liquid Waste Resource Management Plan as reasons for the upgrade.

Construction on the project began in March and is scheduled for completion by late spring of 2018.
