Husky Oil fined $100,000 for workplace safety violation

LLOYDMINSTER, ALTA. — Husky Oil Operations Limited of Calgary, Alta. has pleaded guilty for an occupational health and safety violation.

The incident occurred on Aug. 24, 2015, when a worker was injured after being hit by a truck at Husky Oil’s Lloydminster sand disposal facility.

On Sept. 18 the company was fined $100,000 in Lloydminster Provincial Court for contravention of subsection 133(6) of the regulations, which state an employer must develop and implement a traffic control plan to protect workers from traffic hazards at any place of employment other than a public highway.

The amount includes a $71,429 fine and a $28,571 surcharge. An additional charge was withdrawn in court.
