The Vancouver Regional Construction Association has announced the 2014 Silver Award winners for the 26th annual Awards of Excellence.
The winners in the general contractors over $55 million category were EllisDon for the Surrey Memorial Hospital Critical Care Tower, Ledcor for the Guildford Town Centre Redevelopment (also located in Surrey), and PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. for the Surrey Pretrial Services Centre Expansion Project.
In the general contractors $15 to $55 million category, EllisDon won for the TRIUMF ARIEL Main Construction located in Vancouver, and Grahan Design-Builders won for the Chilliwack Secondary School in Chilliwack, B.C. Vancouver Pile Driving Ltd. won for the Marine Terminal El Boleo Mine, located in Mexico.
Vancouver Pile Driving Ltd. won again in the general contractors under $15 million winners category for their work on the Seabus Berthing Structures and Maintenance Facility Rehabilitation project in North Vancouver. Ledcor won for the UBC Bioenergy Research & Demonstration Facility in Vancouver, and Manley Design & Construction Management Ltd. won for the Tonari Gumi Community Centre, also located in Vancouver.
The winners in the trade contractors over $3 million category were Centura Building Systems Ltd. for their work on the Surrey Memorial Hospital Critical Care Tower project, Centimark Ltd. for the City Square Property Holdings project in Vancouver, and Southwest Contracting Ltd. for the Evergreen Rapid Transit Line in Port Moody and Coquitlam.
In the Trade Contractor $1 million to $3 million category, the winners were Syber Concrete Forming Ltd. for the TRIUMF ARIEL Main Construction, StructureCraft Builders for Chilliwack Secondary School and Glastech Glazing Contractors Ltd. for the UBC Ponderosa Commons Phase One Student Residences.
The third trade contractor award category recognized excellence for a project worth up to $1 million. Maxwell Floors Ltd. earned Silver for the UBC Ponderosa Commons Phase One Student Residences, Solid Rock Steel Fabricating Co. Ltd. won for Sixth + Willow and ALPRO Aluminum Products Ltd. took home the honours for the Supply and Installation of Faregate Barriers.
Keith Plumbing and Heating Co. Ltd. won for their work on the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the mechanical contractors over $3 million category, as did Fred Welsh Ltd. for the Surrey Memorial Hospital Critical Care Tower and Lockerbie & Hole Contracting Ltd. for the Coquitlam UV Disinfection General Contract.
In the mechanical contractors up to $3 million category, Inlet Mechanical Services Ltd. won for the Stratford Hall Middle Years Program project in Vancouver, Jeda Mechanical Ltd. won for the UBC Bioenergy Research & Demonstration Facility, and Waltons Heating won for the Wills Creek Emaar Canada project in Surrey, B.C.
Electrical contractors over $2 million winners were Houle Electric Limited for the Surrey Memorial Hospital Critical Care Tower, Western Pacific Enterprises GP for the Surrey Pretrial Services Centre Expansion Project, and Power Pros Electrical for their work on the Schneider Electric Solar MicroGrid Lab project in Burnaby, B.C.
Bridge Electric Corp. won for the Stratford Hall Middle Years Program project in the electrical contractors up to $2 million category, Anton Electrical Services Inc. won for the Dilawri Audi Vancouver Dealership, and Houle Electric Limited. took a silver award for the Cargill Dust Mitigation Program. All the projects in this category are located in Vancouver.
In the manufacturers and suppliers category, Western Archib won for the Hillside Centre Redevelopment Phase II in Victoria, Ocean Concrete won for the Guildford Town Centre Redevelopment in Surrey, B.C., and Euroline Windows Inc. won for the Wills Creek Emaar Canada project, also in Surrey.
There were several gold winners in the heritage restoration award category for the 564 Beatty Street project in Vancouver. ITC Construction Canada Inc., Dominion Masonry Ltd., Sentrax Mechanical Contracting Ltd. and Chambers Electrical Corp. all took home the gold.
"The Silver Award winners this year truly represent the finest of our industry. These companies were able to bring projects of the highest calibre in on time and on budget, and we are proud to honour them at this year’s event," VRCA president Fiona Famulak said.
