RAIC offers Italy-based stonework scholarship

VERONA, ITALY – The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) is seeking applications for a design course in Verona, Italy.

Five RAIC members will attend the 19th edition of the Marmomacc Stone Academy’s Designing with Natural Stone course from Sept. 24 through Sept. 30. Applications for the course will be accepted until June 9, at 5 p.m. EDT.

The class is intended to help architects learn advanced techniques in the use of granite, marble and other stone materials through a combination of classroom lectures, guided architectural tours and trips to local quarries and natural stone processing facilities.

Session topics include sustainable stone design, stone cladding, new finishing technologies, stone care and maintenance, stone sourcing and selection, and working with local and global stone suppliers.

Candidates must submit a resume and a maximum two-page (or 700 word) application, which will be ranked under a five-point grading scheme. The applicant is expected to demonstrate "an interest and commitment to designing with stone in their practice, how the scholarship will strengthen and advance their career as an RAIC member, and how the applicant would subsequently serve as an ambassador for the RAIC and the profession," reads an RAIC release.

Participation in the program will earn 20 continuing education credits and the scholarship covers airfare, hotel, local meals, local transportation and registration fees. Only architects who are fully licensed and working for private firms are eligible for the program.

Applications can be sent to Amanda Delorey at adelorey@raic.org.
