VRCA announces 45 Silver Awards of Excellence winners

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) has announced its 2017 Silver Awards of Excellence winners.

These awards are intended to recognize the construction industry’s finest companies and projects from across British Columbia, notes a media statement issued Aug. 9.

This year, 45 Silver Award winners have been selected in 15 project categories on the basis of criteria that include the use of innovative techniques, new materials or exceptional project management.

One Silver Award winner from each project category will be chosen as the Gold Award winner in the respective category at the 29th Awards of Excellence Gala to be held on Oct. 25 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.

"This year, 95 companies were nominated from 50 project submissions with a total construction value of over $1.1 billion," said Tony Everett, chairman of the Awards of Excellence Committee. "As judges, we recognize the ongoing significance of new materials and technology and the impact on our industry now and in future. We also recognize that Vancouver has a rich history and we were very impressed with one particular project that is so unique it will receive this year’s Heritage Award."

All projects have been completed in the past two years.

In addition to announcing the 15 Gold Award winners at its gala on Oct. 25, the VRCA will present Outstanding Achievement Awards to companies and individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the industry and to community, the statement indicates.

Outstanding Achievement Awards categories include Lifetime Achievement, Education Leadership, an Outstanding Woman in Construction, Innovation and Productivity, Safety, the VRCA Member of the Year, U40 Excellence in Construction and Construction Workplace Health and Safety.

At the gala, the VRCA will also award Life Membership to an individual to honour significant contributions to the industry and the association.
