The Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) recently held its 31st annual Gold Awards of Excellence in downtown Vancouver while also celebrating its 90th anniversary.
VRCA president Fiona Famulak told the Journal of Commerce this year’s nominees are increasingly using wood both inside and outside buildings, implementing new technologies and emphasizing sustainability. She added public projects lead the nominations, but other sectors are also represented.
Famulak singled out Bird Construction for their work on the SFU Sustainable Energy Engineering Building, which netted the firm a gold award in the General Contractors – Over $50 Million category. She called the project not only a remarkable example of construction but of artistry.
