VANCOUVER — Alan Rodger Webster, one of the founders of the Vancouver Regional Construction Association and a leader in the Metro Vancouver construction sector, has died at 82.
According to his obituary, Webster died Aug. 23 after battling a brain disease.
He arrived in Canada in the 1950s when his family emigrated from Scotland. He was trained as a civil engineer and was a registered engineer in Alberta and B.C. He went on to study construction management, contract law, construction law, labour relations and project management.
From 1962 to 1989, Webster worked for CANA Construction where he reached the position of vice-president. He oversaw major projects including Bow Valley Square, Suncor Energy Centre, the Nexen building and the Olympic Saddledome.
In 1989, he established the Vancouver office of Stuart Olson Construction. His obituary also stated he was instrumental in establishing the Vancouver Regional Construction Association where he served as chairman of the board. After retirement he stayed close with the association, taking on the role of chair of the Awards of Excellence in Construction.
