RAIC cites travel uncertainty, health concerns in cancelling in-person 2022 congress

OTTAWA — The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) has announced it is cancelling the in-person component of its 2022 Congress on Architecture, scheduled for Oct. 1 to 4 in St. Andrews, N.B.

A statement from RAIC CEO Mike Brennan indicated RAIC staff have been closely following updates from the Public Health Agency of Canada and the World Health Organization with respect to COVID-19 and monkeypox as well as emerging issues facing the travel industry with thousands of flight cancellations threatening travel plans.

“The RAIC’s top priorities are safeguarding the health, safety and well-being of congress delegates, volunteers, speakers, panellists, exhibitors and staff, as well as ensuring that travel is as smooth as possible,” explained Brennan, noting there have been many flight cancellations already during the period of the congress.

Plans to rebook or transition event components will be developed in the coming weeks, and staff will be in touch with delegates, fellows, sponsors, exhibitors and special guests over the coming days.
