MHCA raises equipment rentals by 18 per cent

WINNIPEG — The Manitoba Heavy Construction Association (MHCA) has approved an 18 per cent rate increase on equipment rentals.

The decision to raise the rates was put to the MHCA Board of Directors by the MHCA Equipment Rental Rates Committee and was approved on Dec. 8.

“Your Equipment Rental Rates Committee does not take these matters lightly – hence the referral for approval to the board,” writes MHCA chair Greg McKee in the association’s newsletter.

McKee said the rate increase are caused by the effects of supply chain issues, geopolitical events half-way around the world and inflation.

“Consequently, the price pressures on many factors feeding into our equipment rental rates have triggered a significant, across-the-board increase to the rates in 2023,” McKee writes.

The rates will be reflected in the 2023 MHCA Membership Directory and Equipment Rental Rates Guide, scheduled for release mid-March.

The guide will also feature the following changes: wheel loaders will now be classified by weight in their groups and motor graders will now be classified by weight.

Motor grader attachments will also see the following rate increases: all-wheel drive at 15 per cent, snow wing at 15 per cent and front blade, V-plow and one-way plow at 10 per cent, reads the notice.
