West and east coast ship builders collaborate on digital project
Seaspan Shipyards is partnering with Newfoundland and Labrador-based Genoa Design International to create the $3 million Digital Ship In-Service Support Project which will be funded by Canada’s Ocean Supercluster and project participants. The work aims to develop new integrated capabilities for vessel management and maintenance through an advanced technology platform that will manage vessel lifecycle, improve vessel design and construction to reduce costs and integrate multiple data sources.
Legal blog analyzes Alberta’s Zerbin case
The latest blog by Stephen Thiele of the Toronto-based law firm Gardiner Roberts highlights the 2020 Alberta case of Zerbin v. Vrbanek to illustrate how homebuilding projects can go badly awry. In an article published Dec. 28, Thiele focuses on when a court can impose personal liability against a director or officer of a company and on the application of the defences of truth or justification and qualified privilege in a defamation action.
Roofing leads U.S. wood panel demand
Roofing accounted for nearly a third of residential wood panel demand in 2019 and is expected to remain the leading application through 2024, according to a new analysis from the Freedonia Group. The report cited an increase in renovations of damaged roofs and strengthening of existing roofs and said the majority of wood panel use in roofing applications is generated by roof sheathing and decking requirements.
Architizer calls for entries for annual awards
Online architecture information platform Architizer is calling for entries for its ninth annual Architizer A+Awards. The awards are judged by Architizer’s 250-plus jury academy featuring members of the architecture and design community. The entry deadline is Jan. 29 and entries can be submitted here.
