Kitsilano Secondary School in Vancouver, which has stood for 100 years, will receive a $57.8 million upgrade to both expand the school and preserve and restore its heritage aspects.
The planned expansion includes a 350-seat theatre, three gymnasiums, green space for student learning and space for individual support and group work.
Heritage features will also be restored and the school will be seismically upgraded and built to LEED Gold standards. Construction will proceed in three phases to minimize disruption to students and staff, and is expected to be complete by 2016.
