Langley signs agreement for SkyTrain project
PROVINCE OF B.C.

LANGLEY, B.C. – Langley City Council has signed off on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with TransLink for the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain Project.

According to city officials, the agreement does not create legally binding rights nor to fetter the powers of the Mayors’ Council on approving future agreements and policies, but it is a statement of intent and illustrates mutual support of the project and is intended to advance the development of the project.

The approval of the MOU will allow TransLink to proceed with the next steps of the work plan to complete and submit a business case and design to the Federal and Provincial treasury boards in spring 2020.

“The MOU reaffirms TransLink and Langley City’s commitment to work collaboratively and support the project to complete the SkyTrain to Langley City as one complete project,” said Mayor Val van den Broek in a media release. “It demonstrates that Langley City is being proactive and taking a methodical approach to strengthening the business case to secure the remaining $1.9 billion in the Phase Three Investment Plan.”

The city’s commitment also includes the development of updated land-use plans, transit-oriented land-use policies and affordable housing strategies, all of which are already underway as part of the OCP and Zoning Bylaw Updates project and Nicomekl River District Neighbourhood Plan, and which will form part of the future agreements.
