B.C. Liberals announce $8 billion Rebuild BC plan including Massey tunnel replacement

VANCOUVER – B.C. Liberal leader Andrew Wilkinson announced if elected his party would build a ten-lane bridge to replace the George Massey Tunnel as part of their $8 billion Rebuild BC plan.

“For three years the NDP has intentionally stalled the replacement to the George Massey because they don’t care about families on the either side of the Fraser River. A BC Liberal government will build a 10-lane bridge to get people moving again and fix this mess that John Horgan and the NDP have created,” Wilkinson said.

Wilkinson also condemned the NDP’s community benefit agreement program (CBA) for major infrastructure projects as an “insider contract scheme.”

“This is what you get with John Horgan and the NDP – they take more of your money and make sure their donors and friends are taken care of instead of putting hard-working families first Our $8 billion Rebuild B.C. plan will be the biggest infrastructure investment in B.C. history. The BC Liberals know how to get things built and our Rebuild B.C. plan will help get B.C. back on track,” Wilkinson said.

Among the other projects promised by the BC Liberals in the Rebuild BC Plan are continued TransLink expansion to south of the Fraser River, the Fraser Valley and North Vancouver. Transportation corridors would be expanded including the Trans-Canada Highway and the Liberals have also pledged to increase funding for road and bridge maintenance in the rural parts of the province.

This three-year commitment represents a 35 per cent increase over current capital spending commitments and will be the biggest infrastructure investment in B.C. history with a total investment of $30.9 billion over three years,” A BC Liberal release stated.

The Liberals also promise to expand Foundry Centers and Car 40 mental health services, upgrade k-12 facilities and build new schools throughout B.C. and upgrade and expand assisted living and long-care homes.

The B.C. election is on October 24. Early voting by mail and in district electoral offices has already begun.
