SURREY, B.C. – Surrey officials have greenlit the purchase of a 9.3-acre lot to use as parkland for the neighbourhood.
According to the Redwood Heights Neighbourhood Concept Plan, the lot on 24 Avenue is now slated to be used as parkland.
“Council is very pleased to support the acquisition of this parcel of land which will protect a high value, regionally significant biodiversity conservation corridor,” said Mayor Doug McCallum in a statement. “The city will preserve the land as a neighbourhood park serving the Redwood Heights area. The new parkland, which is located next to a future school site, will feature connecting trails for parents and children to use going to and from the school.”
This acquisition also includes road dedication for 24 Avenue, 24A Avenue and future 26 Avenue fronting the property. Park planning and design are to be completed later.
The City of Surrey manages over 800 parks. More than 200 parks have active amenities such as sports fields, sport courts, playgrounds, community gardens or picnic areas and over 600 parks protect natural areas, open space, and biodiversity.
