Consultation on B.C.’s next budget is now open

VICTORIA – Now is the time to have your say on what B.C. should spend its budget on.

Officials announced the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services’ Budget 2023 consultation is now open.

Residents are invited to share their suggestions for the 2023 provincial budget by providing written comments or filling out an online survey by Friday, June 24. Public hearings will be held beginning Monday, June 6 with the presentation of the Budget 2023 Consultation Paper by the minister of finance.

“The committee will carefully consider all input received and intends to release its report with recommendations for the next budget in August 2022,” said officials.

The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services is one of 10 permanent parliamentary committees established to undertake work on behalf of the legislative assembly. The committee, currently made up of MLAs from government and the official opposition, holds an annual public consultation to hear from British Columbians about their ideas and priorities for the next provincial budget.

Officials stated because participation in the budget consultation continues to increase each year, the committee has looked at ways to simplify and standardize the consultation process to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate effectively.

“As such, this year, the committee will be asking participants to focus their written input and presentations on their top three recommendations for the provincial budget,” said officials.

For details about the consultation and how to participate, visit the committee’s website:, or contact the Parliamentary Committees Office by email at, by phone at 250 356-2933 or 1 877 428-8337 (toll-free in B.C.).
