Grand Forks and B.C. formalize partnership on housing

GRAND FORKS, B.C. — The City of Grand Forks and the province have entered a partnership to develop more housing in the community.

A memorandum of understanding between the two governing bodies includes an agreement to replace the Hardy View Lodge shelter on 78th Ave.

The shelter is currently operating with a temporary-use permit and will close by March 31, 2023, according to a news release.

The city will offer municipal sites as potential places to build a new shelter. Once a site is selected, BC Housing will take care of everything else.

BC Housing will also be considering the sale of its property at 7382-2nd St. to Grand Forks for future development into an affordable housing project. Updates will be made available to the public as the process progresses.

“This MOU sets the tone for upcoming collaboration, ensuring that any new housing meets the needs of the community and is built in the most suitable locations,” said Grand Forks Mayor Brian Taylor.
