Alberta invests $55 million in affordable housing, seeks proposals

EDMONTON, ALTA. — The Government of Alberta has announced $55 million in funding for affordable housing projects over the next three years.

The funding is part of the new Affordable Housing Partnership Program which seeks to facilitate P3 projects to build 25,000 new housing units over the next 10 years, a news release states.

“Proposals for developments with an affordable, social housing or specialized housing component will be accepted until Jan. 11, 2023. Projects can include additions, renovations, conversions, redevelopments or new construction,” reads the release.

“Through this new funding program, we look forward to pursuing partnership opportunities with government to provide more affordable housing in our region. An investment into affordable housing is an investment in Albertans,” said Robin James, chief administrative officer of Lethbridge Housing Authority and vice-president for the South Region of Alberta Seniors and Community Housing Association, in the release.
