Feds investing $1.7 m in BC island’s recreational infrastructure

OTTAWA – The Government of Canada has announced a $1.7 million investment in nine active transportation projects on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

The funds will be provided through the Active Transportation Fund, according to a news release.

Of the nine projects, eight will receive $50,000 or less in funding.

The Lazo Greenway Multi-Use Pathway in the Town of Comox will be receiving $1,345,000. The project will see the construction of 2.5 kilometres of gravel and asphalt multi-use path from Butchers Rd. to Sand Pines Rd., according to the release.

The funding includes the cost of signage, landscaping and pedestrian crossings.
