VICTORIA — The Government of British Columbia is investing a combined $750,000 in three Vancouver Island projects to grow the province’s value-added wood and manufacturing sectors.

Kinsol Timber Systems in Mill Bay is receiving up to $500,000 for a pre-fabrication facility for mass timber products. The funding will help add a nail-laminated timber line, establish a new panelized wall line and increase its sawn-timber and glue-laminated-timber fabrication, reads a news release.

Nexus Modular Solutions in Cobble Hill is receiving up to $200,000 to purchase new machinery to diversify its modular and manufactured homes product lines.

Gold River Aquafarms was awarded $50,000 for the final stage of planning the viability of retrofitting a former pulp and paper mill warehouse into a salmon-processing facility and aquafarm.

Kinsol Timber’s Tyler Hiltunen, operations manager, said the funding enables the construction of a new manufacturing facility and head office.

“This not only galvanizes Kinsol’s commitment to community, but will also create new jobs, enhance our production capabilities and allow us to better meet the growing demands of the mass-timber market,” Hiltunen said in the release.

The funds come through the province’s $180 million BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund.
