N.W.T. approves $1.35 million to fund six GHG reduction projects

YELLOWKNIFE, N.W.T. — The Government of the Northwest Territories is providing a total of $1.35 million to six greenhouse gas  (GHG) reduction projects and initiatives in the territory.

The funding is part of the Greenhouse Gas Grant Program. Combined, the projects will reduce GHG emissions by approximately 633 tonnes annually, reads a news release.

Borealis Development Inc. is receiving $600,000 for The NEST, Deh Cho First Nations is receiving $108,205 for the Edéhzhíe Solar Project, 6133 NWT Ltd. is receiving $300,000 to revitalize the Yellowknife Post Office Building and the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment is receiving $255,000 to electrify the North Arm Territorial Park Campground, among others.

“Everyone has a role to play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to a low carbon economy,” said Caroline Wawzonek, minister of finance, industry, tourism and investment, in the release.

“Through the GHG Grant Program, the Government of the Northwest Territories is providing financial support and resources to businesses, governments and non-governmental organizations so they can make these projects a reality and assist us in protecting the environment.”
