Federal government invests in HVAC retrofit for Snuneymuxw Daycare

NANAIMO, B.C. – The Government of Canada is investing $281,460 to support a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) retrofit for the Snuneymuxw Daycare in Nanaimo.

The project will decommission and dispose of the existing HVAC system and the funding will also support building remediation, a government release said.

The Government of Canada is investing $281,460 to this project through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program, 10 per cent of which is allocated to projects serving First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, including Indigenous populations in urban centres, the release stated.

Once complete, the improvements are expected to reduce the facility’s energy consumption by an estimated 24 per cent and greenhouse gas emissions by 0.34 tonnes annually, the release added.
