Alberta pledges $2.1 billion to build and modernize schools across the province

EDMONTON – The Government of Alberta is pledging to spend $2.1 billion over three years to build and modernize schools across the province.

The 2024 budget advances 43 priority school projects, including 28 new schools, 10 replacement schools and five modernizations, a release said.

As part of the three-year capital investment, $103 million over three years will be used to supply modular classrooms to quickly increase classroom spaces in schools facing significant capacity challenges, the release said.

Collegiate schools and public charter schools will also be supported by a commitment of $123 million over three years.

The 2024 Alberta budget also prioritizes 18 schools in Calgary and area and 14 schools in the Capital Region. The new school projects in these regions will mean 16,000 more spaces for students in the Calgary region, and 12,500 more in the Edmonton region, the release said.
