Saskatchewan invests $400,000 in Indigenous participation in natural resources sector

REGINA – The Government of Saskatchewan is putting $400,000 towards increasing Indigenous participation in the natural resource sector through a new partnership with the Saskatchewan First Nations Natural Resource Centre of Excellence.

Through the funding the centre will conduct a needs assessment to identify barriers faced by Indigenous people when trying to enter employment in the natural resources sector as well as develop strategies to connect Indigenous people to jobs in the natural resource and sustainable energy development sectors, a release said.

Targeted investments support the recently released Saskatchewan Labour Market Strategy, the release said, which outlines how the provincial government will ensure the labour force can meet employer demand, with the first pillar of the strategy increasing Indigenous participation in the workforce.
