B.C. Highways Contractor Awards winners announced

VICTORIA, B.C. – The government of British Columbia has announced the winners of the B.C. Highway’s Contractor of the Year Award of Excellence, in the categories of bridges and structures, grading paving, road and bridge maintenance and community service.

Formula Contractors Ltd. won in the Bridges and Structures category for replacing the Bowlder Creek culvert on Highway 97 near Chetwynd, N.C. with a new 30.5 metre two-lane bridge with new highway approaches. He project included stream channel stabilization work and environmental work, working with the Moberly Lake Band as environmental observers.

Mackay Contracting Ltd. won the Grading award for their work on the Highway 1 Donald to Forde Station Road four-laning project near Golden, B.C., including widening 2.5 km of Highway 1 to four lanes and improving access to the commercial vehicle safety enforcement inspection station.

The Paving award went to BA Blacktop Ltd. for work done on the Highway 11 Harris Road to Mission Bridge resurfacing project near Abbotsford, B.C. The firm implemented crossover paving to minimize disruption for commuters on the heavily used corridor which sees approximately 43,000 vehicles a day.

Yellowhead Road & Bridge (YRB) Vanderhoof won the Road and Bridge Maintenance award. YRB Vanderhoof is responsible for approximately 1,500 km of roads and 41 bridges across the communities of Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Fraser Lake, Fort Fraser and Endako, B.C.

The Community Service award was given to Selkirk Paving Ltd. The firm donated funds to the Rossland Skatepark, time and materials to the Nelson Tennis Club and Nelson Nordic Ski Club and donated a pathway to the City of Nelson Hall Street Project in spring 2019.

The awards were held at the Victoria Conference Centre in Victoria, B.C. on December 6. Videos of each winner are available below.
