Building permits spike in June

Statistics Canada reported yesterday that the total value of building permits across Canada rose 6.9 per cent to $10.3 billion in June. Seven provinces contributed to the gain, led by Ontario, which jumped 22.7 per cent. Construction intentions in the residential sector were up 9.1 per cent while the non-residential sector advanced 2.2 per cent. The value of commercial permits rose 7.4 per cent to $1.7 billion.

H&R REIT signs deals in Calgary, Mississauga

H&R REIT announced on Aug. 3 that it has entered into divestment agreements involving the two-million-square-foot Bow office tower located in Calgary and the 1.1-million-square-foot Bell office campus in Mississauga. Proceeds from the sale of its interest in the facilities add up to $1.47 billion.

New Cranbrook urgent and primary care centre on the way

A new urgent and primary care centre (UPCC) has been announced by the B.C. government and will open in November 2021 in Cranbrook, B.C. The Cranbrook UPCC is a collaboration between Interior Health, the Ministry of Health, the East Kootenay Division of Family Practice and the Ktunaxa Nation. This UPCC is part of the East Kootenay Primary Care Network. When the centre opens, care will be available seven days a week, 365 days a year and through extended hours on evenings and weekends.
