First Notice: G3 grain elevators; StatsCan sees rising mental health issues: MCHA infrastructure concerns addressed

G3 plans two new grain elevators

Winnipeg-based grain infrastructure firm G3 this morning announced plans to build two new grain elevators in Alberta and Saskatchewan. G3 Rycroft, Alberta and G3 Melfort, Sask. will each have a capacity of 42,000 tonnes. Both new facilities will be located on CN Rail. Construction will begin later this year, pending final regulatory approvals, with completion expected in early 2023. G3 currently has 17 grain elevators across Western Canada including two which opened this year: G3 Vermilion, Alta. and G3 Swift Current, Sask.

Mental health indicators rose in spring 2021

Findings released today from the Statistic Canada Survey on COVID-19 and Mental Health indicate that one in four (25 per cent) Canadians aged 18 and older screened positive for symptoms of depression, anxiety or posttraumatic stress disorder in spring 2021, up from one in five (21 per cent) in fall 2020. A positive screen is not a medical diagnosis and does not always indicate that a disorder is present for an individual.

Manitoba Infrastructure hears industry concerns on scoping and scheduling

Manitoba government officials are listening to industry concerns about the scope and schedule of large projects, according to Manitoba Heavy Construction Association (MHCA) president Chris Lorenc. “The department understood the need to size the projects such that local as well as extra-provincial contractors were able to bid,” Lorenc said in a recent association newsletter, adding senior department officials have reassured the MHCA they are working toward releasing multi-year highways capital budgets with the ultimate goal being annual and five-year investment plans.
