Construction begins on Barnston Island Ferry Docks

SURREY, B.C. — Repair work begins this January at the Barnston Island Ferry docks which runs across Parsons Channel on the south side of the Fraser River between Barnston Island (north bank) and Port Kells (south bank) in Surrey, B.C.

The work involves replacement of piles, substructure repairs and repair and replacement of other dock components.

Work will occur during the daytime and overnight and is expected to be complete by the end of February.

Ferry capacity is five vehicles and 52 passengers, subject to the approved load capacity of the vessel. Ferry users are advised there may be traffic pattern changes at the terminals to accommodate construction, though the contractor is scheduling work to minimize the effect on the ferry service.

Updates and current conditions will be posted to DriveBC.
