CANADIAN PREMIER LEAGUE — A rendering of the future Vancouver FC soccer stadium in the Township of Langley. Foundations for the stadium’s modular build are currently under construction and the entire complex is set to be completed before the team’s first game on May 7.

LANGLEY, B.C. — Modular builds are changing the definition of a construction timeline.

The new Vancouver FC Stadium in the Township of Langley has recently begun construction and is scheduled to be complete before the team’s first game on May 7.

The exceptionally fast timeline is thanks to the building’s modular construction design, states a news release.

“The modular stadium system dramatically reduces onsite construction time and allows municipalities to create professional and intimate soccer-specific venues for a fraction of the budget typically spent on arenas and concrete stadiums,” said Dean Shillington, managing partner of SixFive Sports and Entertainment, the parent company of SixFive Stadium Experience and the Vancouver Football Club, in the release.

Shipping containers holding the flat pack stadium arrived on Feb. 8 at the Port of Vancouver. Work has already begun laying the concrete foundations and services that will support the prefabricated structure.

The modular design also allows for the stadium to “grow with the club and its surrounding community and is able to expand in capacity and amenities to serve its supporters now and in the future,” reads the release.

“This stadium will become the heartbeat of the community for years to come and is a very flexible amenity that can expand as the sport of soccer continues to grow in Canada,” said Shillington.

The soccer specific stadium is the first in the Lower Mainland and is located at Willoughby Community Park at the Langley Events Centre. It will accommodate 6,560 fans.

Fan groups will have a home in the south end of the stadium to “take in the action arm in arm with fellow members of the community,” reads the release.

A Cabana Club will be featured on the east grandstand, VIP dining and Tunnel Club-style experiences will be offered below the west grandstand, a family zone for youngsters will be located at the north end of the stadium and there will be entertainment plazas throughout including an area designated to house a mini food truck festival on each match day featuring local business fare.
