VICTORIA — A new recycling facility in Richmond will be targeting housing construction waste.
The Ecowaste landfill is getting removed from the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) by the Government of British Columbia, making way for the new facility, according to a news release.
Ecowaste will build a modern facility to recycle 65 per cent of the housing construction waste it receives. The landfill’s current footprint is not set to expand.
The facility must be built and operating by Jan. 1, 2029. The facility will allow operations to extend until 2055.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change were consulted with and agreed to the decision to remove the land from the ALR, states the release.
